A stone cover was recorded by Jeff Scott Soto with the Talisman band for their 1998 anthology Truth.[94] A reviewer from Melodic Stone was positive about the version and called it a "moody version with the backing vocals and accompanying keyboards intact."[95] Smooth industrial metal band Thy Affliction used parts of the original strings and vocals in a cover on their 2001 album, Devilsh Act of Creation.[96] German gothic rock/industrial rock band Girls Under Drinking glass released their embrace on the Frozen EP in 2001.[97] The post-obit year, Mad'House too re-recorded it for the tribute album Absolutely Mad.[98] Cistron Loves Jezebel recorded their cover version which appeared on two albums, A Tribute to Madonna: Virgin Voices and Tribute to Madonna: Similar a Virgin.[99] [100] Doom Kounty Electric Chair gave the song a "nighttime rock" experience with their embrace, released in 2004.[101]

Italian stone band Absinth Consequence recorded a cover version of "Frozen" for their debut album in 2009.[102] In May 2013, contestant Olympe sang the song on the second season of the French version of The Vocalisation: la plus belle voix, allowing him to reach the bear witness's semi-final. His coach, Jenifer, welcomed the performance warmly.[103] Jérôme Vermelin from Metronews.fr said "Without pianoforte, but in a spectacular setting, the young vocalizer from Amiens shows his pitched voice with disconcerting facility. And his wait? The mixture of not bad and pure sincerity? Although the formula may seem repetitive, it is non difficult to be captivated".[103] Hanane Abdelouahed from TF1 commented that with the rendition, he "has taken the rails from the queen of pop".[104] Although it was not performed by the show's bandage, the song was included on the episode "The Power of Madonna", on the Boob tube serial Glee, in 2010.[105] In 2019, the song was used on the outset episode of the 2nd season of the Netflix series She'southward Gotta Have It.[106]

Plagiarism accusation

In November 2005, a Belgian judge in Mons ruled that the opening four-bar theme to "Frozen" was plagiarized from the song "Ma vie fout le camp" ("My Life's Getting Nowhere"), equanimous by Salvatore Acquaviva. The judge subsequently ordered the withdrawal from sales of all remaining discs, and forbade any further playing of the vocal on Belgian Television and radio. The judge as well ordered Warner Bros., EMI and Sony to spread the conclusion inside fifteen days to media outlets on hurting of a penalty of €125,000 for non-compliance with the court lodge. Acquaviva's lawyer, Victor Vicent Dehin, said: "We tried to accomplish a friendly understanding... but they didn't want to negotiate and then I sued for plagiarism. They have stolen a song, so they accept to pay the value of the song." No laurels damages for the song were granted.[107] Acquaviva had explained to the court that the singer heard "Ma vie fout l'camp" during a trip to Mouscron in the late 1970s. She had been recruited to be a dancer on a tour with French singer Patrick Hernandez, whose discs were produced in Mouscron.[108] Dehin also stated that the lawsuit was just the first step, and the next word would be about the copyright gains Madonna obtained with "Frozen".[108] Afterwards, the song was omitted from the track list on the Belgian pressings of Celebration in 2009.[109] [110] However, Madonna performed the song during the Pasty & Sweet Tour in Werchter, with Bert Bieseman, marketing manager of Belgian co-operative of Warner Bros. stating that "Madonna is not agape of a more or less riot".[111] Acquaviva commented almost the instance:

Madonna planning to perform "Frozen" in Werchter? I didn't await anything else, you lot know. I don't even mind. Information technology only would exist nice considering I would finally become some coin subsequently all these years, considering the case is still going on. I'm certainly non going to the concert. My lawyer is following the case. I'm really going to follow Madonna'south concert with interest, because she really tin can't perform the song. Yet, I remember we won't immediately take steps. The court'due south decision is subject to various interpretations. The vocal can't exist played on the radio or be sold, but have nosotros arguments enough for the concert to be over? We won't bring additional spectacle to the show. Unnecessary scandals, with Madonna information technology's guaranteed.[111]

In February 2014, a Belgian court repealed the verdict on the instance and proclaimed that Madonna did not plagiarize Acquaviva's piece of work. The court spoke of a "new capital criminal offense" in the file: composer Edouard Scotto Di Suoccio and societies Tabata Atoll Music and Music in Paris had also filed a complaint for plagiarism. According to them, both "Ma vie fout le campsite" and "Frozen" originated in the song "Blood Dark" which they composed in 1983.[112] Afterward all three tracks in the case were compared, the final ruling was that the songs were "non sufficiently 'original' to merits" that any plagiarism had taken place.[113] This ruling concluded the eight-year ban of the vocal in identify in Belgium since 2005.[113]
